About the Author

Camp has been married twice. He and his first wife, Melissa Lynn Henning-Camp (born October 7, 1979), were married on October 21, 2000. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and died on February 5, 2001, when he was 23 and she was 21. Some of his early songs reflect the emotional ordeal of her illness. "I Still Believe" was the first song he wrote after her death. "Walk By Faith" was written during their honeymoon. In December of 2003, he married Adrienne Liesching, former frontwoman for The Benjamin Gate. They have two daughters: Isabella Rose Camp (born September 25, 2004) and Arianne Mae Camp (born April 5, 2006). Camp has scored fourteen #1 Christian music hits (six from his first album, Stay). His first single was "Understand." He has made eight music videos: "Understand," "Walk By Faith," "Take You Back," "Tonight" "Give You Glory," "Let It Fade," "I Am Willing,"a song which was not included on any of his albums and "Speaking Louder Than Before."

I first heard of Jeremy Camp when i bought a WOW Hits CD last year and couldn't help but to want more. I soon after started buying his CD's one by one. His songs truely relate to everyday life. When i seen that he had published a book i new that i had to give it a chance. If it was half as good as his songs then it wouldn't be a waste of my money. I found my self reading the entire book in a few hours. With every page there was a more tears and joy added to my day. He truely speaks about his walk with God and has a pure heart that wants to serve the Lord. Thank you Jeremy for sharing an amazing life story.

My copy of this book arrived this morning and I just finished reading it. It is full of honesty and pain and joy and is a personal real life example of what a peace that passes understanding looks like. I encourage anyone who purchases this book to consider purchasing an extra copy to give as a gift. I personally can't afford to do so, but I am passing my copy along to a friend who has my permission to keep passing it along I don't care if I ever get it back as long as it is ministering to someone. Awesome book, if I don't get it back I will definately buy another one eventually.

This book gives you a close up look at Jeremy's life. If you like Jeremy Camp, you will have a whole new respect and admiration for him after reading his story. Once you know the perspective that he was writing his songs from, it really gives them so much more depth and meaning. He writes songs from the heart, through his pain and through his joy. Once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down. It's a very quick and interesting read.

A heartfelt story that the Lord has used in amazing ways to minister to countless people everywhere!

This book was awesome! Jeremy went through an awful experience losing his wife to cancer, but he shows how God was always Faithful! This book has been an inspiration to me. Anyone who is dealing with loss needs to read this book and be encouraged!

This is an amazing book, but he recently just revised this book. I was a little bummed because the new book has a lot more of his life in it. But this book is encouraging and I can't put it down. It's in really good shape too, I was pretty impressed.

I have both of Joudie's cookbooks, Palestine on a Plate and now Baladi. The recipes are authentic and a wonderful way to document our heritage. It reminds me of the beautiful meals made by my family when visiting overseas. The images are gorgeous and evoke a sense of beauty and wonder. I have purchased this book for friends as gifts, as well as copies for my daughters to have for their own cultural keepsakes. Thank you, Joudie for taking the time to document the love and beauty of Palestinian people, culture, and food!

Joudie Kalla is one of the best chefs around and her love of food stems from spending endless amounts of time with her grandmother and mother observing their techniques as they recited stories of their lives, linking Palestinian culture with food.Her cookbooks are beautiful to the eye and her recipes so easy to follow. She brings her love of food and her love of her country to your kitchen.I highly recommend.

My sister and I went to Joudie’s superclub in London and fell in love with her and her recipes. We bought the first book right away! When the second book came out I purchased three copies. One for myself and two for my family.Her recipes are delicious AND accurate to how it’s supposed to be done. With middle eastern food being popular right now it’s hard to find real recipes. Here they are! Her books showcase a delicious truth. Palestine is a beautiful country with a lot of history; especially with food. Joudie displays everything perfectly about Palestine and the Middle East in both books.I definitely recommend purchasing both editions of her books. This book ably spells out the story of this familiar but forgotten war.This war parallels other insurgencies abroad that the American government seems so compellingly drawn to become involved in. Indeed the United States ownership of the Philippines inevitably drew it into the Second World War by means of friction with expansionist Japan-at such a high cost.During this conflict Americans made several mistakes. One Boston born company commander created violent resentments when he ordered the women of the town under his control to wear shirts. The United States Army also suffered from vicious racial problems like those in Vietnam, although on a smaller scale. In particular the colored troops of the 24th US Infantry started their pattern of mischief that continued until the regiment collapsed and had to be disbanded during the Korean War.This book describes the surprising Catholic vs. Protestant tensions that flared up as a result.Ultimately, American Progressive-Era governmental excellence overwhelmed the insurgents' cause for war. The United States Army was still a force extremely adept in dealing with low-level guerrilla style brush wars having just wrapped up the centuries long Indian Conflict. Regiments such as the First North Dakota moved from victory to victory. The excellent political leadership of William Howard Taft is described, as well as the ever important diplomacy with the Vatican and Filipino elite.The Philippine War created an enormous impact on American Culture although it is not fully appreciated. This book reviews the politics and media surrounding the actions by the US in the Philippines following the Spanish-American war. It gives great insight into the propaganda used to sell the war to the American pubic and to obfuscate the atrocities that American soldiers committed there. Miller paints a fascinating picture of egocentric American political and military commands steeped in duplicity and self-delusion; these patterns will be interesting and familiar to any student of the wars in Vietnam and Iraq. The material is sourced mainly from newspaper editorials, political speeches, congressional inquiries and the letters of politicians and high ranking military figures.This book will not tell you anything about what the war was like for the soldiers on the ground, American or Philippino. It won't tell you much about tactics. It won't teach you anything about Philippine culture of the time, either.

An excellent telling of a period that most Americans and Filipinos know little or nothing about. With America's new ownership of the Philippines, we were drawn into a second conflict once the Spanish were routed. The insurrectionist movement against America brought about a bloody and savage war that cost tens of thousands of lives. The third phase was the attempt to subdue the Moros, some of the toughest and most fearless warriors on the planet. The troops involved thought they would only be fighting Spanish regulars and then sent home. Rather, many spent years fighting in jungles and swamps against a clever and determined foe, and many were then shipped off to fight the Boxer's in China in 1900, only to be returned to battle the often fiendish inhabitants of places like Sibago Island, Jolo and Samar. A classic account and ranks with "Muddy Glory" and "Little Brown Brother" to name but a couple. There isn't much written about this conflict, but the information is out there. These lessons should have taught America about getting involved in smaller nations affairs.

As someone old enough to remember the Vietnam War, this book was intriguing as to its insights about imperialistic attitudes stretching back as far as 100 years. However, the author wrote very little about the Philippine side of the story; there aren't even any opinions quoted from Philippine historians. The research is too one-sided, although the narrative recounted isn't.

I sent it to the Bacolod Public Library, Bacolod City, Negros. Philippines.

I cannot recommend this book enough to those who wish to understand the roots of American imperialism and what motivated it. The author presents an honest look at both sides of what was then a burning political question. He quotes not only from media sources but also letters and interviews of soldiers who fought on both sides, court documents, diaries, memoirs and legal papers. He spares no uncomfortable fact and provides a vivid account of both the atrocities and the brutality of guerrila warfare. He also delves into the arguments of congress, the press and the White House for how and why decisions were made (which were mostly due to the political winds of the prevailing election cycle).It's a great eye-opener for those that have never been confronted with the fact that the United States often acted with both greed and callousness. And yet the book is not a condemnation of the United States, rather a look back to what really transpired from 1899-1903 under Presidents McKinley and Roosevelt and America's ill-conceived attempt to enter what it thought was an elite club of nations that practiced third world colonialism.

I'm 13 and as a requirement for my AP Human Geography Class I read this book. I enjoyed the language and style of writing even though it was complicated and slightly hard to understand in some spots. The rich descriptions of landscapes and emotions, took me through a range of feelings and made me confront "the omnivores dilemma" head on. This book is very informative and has helped me understand more about the food system. It has also given me hope that I will be able to see Joel Salatin's dream in my lifetime. I don't feel like there was a clear answer on what an individual could do to help the cause, but I'm sure it's not hard to find on the internet with food being such a popular subject nowadays. I would recommend this book to anybody, not only interested in food but human nature, the relationships between plants, animals, and fungi, government, and an opportunity for a richer, more natural life.

To be or not to be a vegetarian?This is a very interesting book - well thought out and investigated. I am not certain that I want to consume meat again as Pollan tells the reader how these feeder lot cows, pigs and chickens actually live and die. Really, not my idea of humane. Just as interesting is his investigation of corn. It is amazing how corn is in absolutely everything from high-fructose corn syrup to fish food; gasoline to paint; fish to .... well, you get the idea. While more and more acreage is devoted to mono-crops, chiefly corn, we are the "benefactors" of everything that is corn related. Feed lot cattle are fed corn to fatten them up even though it makes them terribly sick and reduces the number of valuable nutrients available to grass fed cows. Multiply that by lamb, chicken, goat, salmon, tilapia, shrimp and you get an idea of why you are eating corn at every meal whether you know it or not. Compound this with the fact that 3 companies control the corn product from seed to pesticide to fertilizer and this monoculture is there to get you in one way or another. Corn that can be sprayed with pesticides that kill everything except the corn - bugs, weeds..... Makes you wonder what you are eating. Anyhow, Pollan has done a wonderful job investigating the food chain and its effect on the environment be it our internal flora or life on earth.

Omnivore's Dilemma was assigned to me in an upper-level economics course, along with other similar books. From the very lengthy list of books, this and Rising Powers, Shrinking Planet: The New Geopolitics of Energy were my absolute favorites. To be upfront, this book it is moderate to leftist in its opinions, as is Michael Klare's book, but both books opened my eyes to an entirely new way of thinking about my Economics & Policy degree. Years later, I'm still referencing them in papers & lectures I give. I highly recommend them to people in all disciplines, including casual readers who are just beginning to inform themselves about these topics. Michael Pollan wrote this book in a casual manner, as if sitting around a table with the reader and having a conversation about this great journey he took, yet at the end of the conversation the reader is left with a great amount of knowledge that they can use in countless ways. A great, fun read that I can't imagine anyone not liking. I can't recommend this book more! Happy Readings!!!

Fascinating book. My son sent it to me as a “must read”. He was right! The book takes an in depth look at where our foods come from and the economic, chemical, environmental and social impact of the process. The author takes a long look at the overproduction of corn in this country (who knew?) and how apparently as a result of this government supported process, many animals raised for meat (cows, chickens, pigs) are fed corn as part of a mass production process. This changes the chemical makeup of the meat, results in hormone and antibiotic use, and cruel conditions for the animals, who are raised simply as production units with everything designed to maximize weight gained per unit of corn required to feed them. He goes on to look at what “organic” has come to mean in this country, (not much), and then to work briefly on a farm which really does raise cows, pigs and chickens in fields of grass in a sustainable way. He also discusses vegetarianism, presenting some of the arguments pro and con. From there he decides he will eat meat but needs to experience hunting, so we get his perspective on this, as well as going into forests to gather mushrooms.For me, this was a truly eye-opening and fascinating book. I felt like I learned a lot of things I should have already known and now have much more insight into. Also, his whole approach to food just felt so wholesome as to make me want to move our own lifestyle in that direction, particularly making more effort to buy locally produced food items, even if they cost more. Also, to pay more attention to where the foods we buy come from and think about the carbon footprint of, for example, blueberries flown here by jet from Central or South America. (Why not buy them in summer as preserves or jelly and just not eat them fresh out of season?). So, all in all most highly recommended to be read by everyone!

About the Author

Holly M. Barker began her work with the Marshallese when she served as a Peace Corps volunteer from 1988 to 1990 on Mili Atoll in the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI). After a brief stint with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Capitol Hill, Holly joined the RMI's embassy in Washington, D.C., where she was employed until 2008. While working full-time at the embassy in Washington, D.C., Holly earned an M.A. in Education and a Ph.D. in Anthropology from American University. Holly has represented the RMI at community, national, bilateral, and international forums, including conferences at the United Nations on such topics such as the extension of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. She currently resides with her family in Seattle, Washington, and is a full-time lecturer in the Anthropology Department at the University of Washington.

Got exactly what I expected: clean nice book, no pages missing, no tears 👌👌

Oh boy. This book will certainly change your opinion on U.S. relations as well as Nuclear Power. At the very least, it will certainly challenge it. I had to read this book for an Intro to Anthropology class as an undergraduate, and found the ethnography well put together for the studious reader.

i havent read it yet but i needed it for one of my classes and i got it so quick! The good thing about it is that it was brand new and doesnt have any missing pages or anything like that - Thanks

Very important read that most people have no idea of the story of. I bought this for a class and it is a lot of money for the size of the book, but I decided to keep it and have let friends borrow it so they are also informed of the tragedy that happened in the Marshall Islands and the problems there that are still not resolved. I suggest this read.

The author points out at beginning of the book that this book is all about local businesses, stocking local makers, using local produce, supporting their local community. Bravo! That was exactly what I was looking for - a resource that would point me towards the heart and soul of what makes Melbourne so unique.Additionally, in between each section is a short interview with a prominent local figure from the precinct just mentioned. This is a nice touch to the guide.The book is divided up into precincts with a map of the precinct at the start of each section. There are dots showing where recommendations are located.Logistically, all this sounds good, but in reality, it is hard to quickly flip through the book and snag the info you need. At a glance I am never sure, am I looking at a restaurant recommendation or a shop? Is this a $ suggestion or a $$$ suggestion? Why are there places recommended in bold and full-page exclusives called Hot Tips that aren’t included on the maps? Why isn’t there one big map showing how all the precincts fit together?Maybe all this is purposeful; maybe the author wants you to read this from page-to-page. Maybe he thinks that this shouldn’t be a one-stop shop, that you will cross reference anyway to get the info that’s not included.I actually want to guve a slightly lower review because of what I’m not getting in the book, but as I cross-reference, I am finding that the recommendations are quality. The author did not just list old time favorites and tourist attractions so I am appreciative of that. Without books like this, I’d have to retreat to blogs to find insider info on all this, and they are a mess to weed through.There is personality in the writing. It feels like a friend is giving you all the insider tips. (“I always like to hit up this place during these times... whenever I’m on this side of town, I can’t help but stop in for a drink here...” - that kind of stuff.)So based on the uniqueness of the material, I’m keeping my rating at four stars, but note to the author: if you update the book, please consider some of the points I’ve mentioned to help readers get to the material faster. That would just make the content that you’re presenting a lot more accessible.

We stayed in Fitzroy and used the Melbourne Precincts book to help us find unique restaurants, crafters, artists, and places for a drink. The book didn't let us down and gave us great ideas and helped direct us to the main shopping streets in each of the suburbs of Melbourne. This helped us find more places to wander and visit. Most of the recommendations were being visited by locals so you won't find these shops in the standard travel guidebook. Highly Recommended.
