This book is very lacking. I'm Chinese and my children are biracial; although I'm also an American, my side of the family is the typical immigrant family. I do love dim sum though, and I like the back of the book where it explains the origin of it; but the board book itself is very mediocre. The illustrations are amateurish and the whole thing has super short sentences (see photos for reference) that really doesn't tell you anything about the social dining concept of it. I will be returning this.

As an ABC (American Born Chinese), I like having these kinds of books to continue passing on a bit of our culture with the next generation. I've been eating dim sum all my life and I haven't tried some of the dishes (or knew what they were called!) ever. It's even interesting to the adults reading this! I think our little girl will enjoy knowing about these dishes when we take her out to eat dim sum in the future!

We read 3-5 books to our 28 month old son everynight. To keep from getting bored, I purchase new books every month to reflect the holidays/seasons. Although Chinese New Year is long past, we still read this book every night - along with Red is a Dragon and Round is a Mooncake! The pictures are gorgous; prose is clear yet still vibrant. This author has a real talent for creating age appropropirate material but not "dumbing it down" or being "too cutesy." Really brilliant piece of writing for young children.

I bought this book for my five year old grand daughter and was surprised that I liked it for myself. The dim sum illustrations are realistic enough to be useful for reference to call the dishes by their traditional Chinese names. There's also a nice story about family. I will order another copy for my friend in San Francisco who annually hosts a "staycation" in the City for her grandchildren. One of their destinations is always a Dim Sum restaurant and this will relate nicely with their activities.

After reading this book, our child DEMANDED to go out for dim sum. Great way to excite kids to try new foods!

We enjoyed dim sum for the first time the other day with our kids. I chose this book to acquaint them with the types of food and what they could expect at the restaurant. We had a lovely time.

As a mother to a mixed-race child (1/2 Chinese), I wanted my child to learn and enjoy her cultural traditions - which of course includes eating! This book is filled with all the elements of dim sum and does a great job illustrating the food items, table settings, etc. Would recommend for anyone who loves dim sum!

My daughter checked this book out from the library when she was 3, she loved it so much that we ended up purchasing ti for her as a birthday gift. She is 6 now, and it is still a favorite. This is a very simple book about a family eating at a dim sum restaurant, but the images are lovely. My daughter even likes the illustrations of different dim sum dishes on the inside cover. This is an excellent book.

Using Albert North Whitehead's linguistic creation of the idea of 'prehenson', Shoop makes her case that what happens to us in life is cut deep in the grooves of physical memory. Our bodies know what has happened to us before our minds are able to analyze it.Shoop uses three experiences - rape, pregnancy and motherhood - to move us through a theological reflection on the worship life of the Christian Church.In reading her book I became aware for the first time intellectually why it is some things are difficult to explain. Some experiences can only be danced - tragically or triumphantly; they simply cannot ever be adequately described.

Powerful theology of the body and how to heal

This was perhaps the most interesting book I've read all year..Shoop tackles three different areas, rape, pregnancy, and motherhood and then develops each one in terms of tragic bodies, relational bodies, and ambiguous bodies.She then talks about how each of those embodiments encourage compassion, interdependence,and adventure.As a man I felt a bit uncomfortable at times reading LET THE BONES DANCE, but the author's call to involve our bodies in all of worship is a welcome one, and certainly a needed one.Well worth reading.

Mount-Shoop takes a terrible sexual violation as a young teen and a long debilitating pregnancy as a young wife to shape a construct that is very useful not only to feminist theology but to all of us and many situations. She maintains that violence and tragedy have the potential to make a person compassionate; pregnancy comes from relationship and fosters intimacy; motherhood creates ambiguity but amazingly ambiguity forces one to be innovative. Compassion, intimacy and innovation are precisely what this world needs from each of us. Even people who have not been sexually violated can relate to tragedy; the same with pregnancy--even if a person has never had children if they have been in relationship they know intimacy. But the most profound conclusion is that raising children creates ambiguity. The genius of the construct is that Mount-Shoop asserts that ambiguity leads us to be innovative. There are so many things for which there is no evident answer or solution. Innovation is the only positive road to take.

Marcia Mount Shoop exploits a mountain of biological information to paint a picture of the female body (especially as it negotiates its way through rape, pregnancy, and motherhood), not as a well-oiled machine but as an ingenious, almost magical self that feels its way forward in an ambiguous,interdependent world and underlies the so-called rational,historical self. She poetically parlays the implications of this self into a theology of compassion, interdependence,and adventure, then offers a critique of worship in the Reformed tradition to make room for a new worship that involves more of the self she has sketched. Often her chapters are preceded by poems of her own creation, which employ stunning language such as a reference to Mary's cervix. Even those who have some acquaintance with feminist writing will find this book eye-opening.

The printer ran out of ink. You’d think it’ll have the best quality because it just came out but I guess that’s not how it works. As you can see, these pages are either faded or almost as white as my teeth. I’m very disappointed as this is the first time this has ever happened to me. I don’t know what to do but I’m certainly not buying anymore books until I get a refund.

We get a good look into Red Riot and Suneaters past to see what made them the hero’s they are today. Awesome fights and the ending leaves you wanting more! Update: December 7, 2018 8:15 am. I noticed some people for this volume with low ink pages and water damage mine has none.

I was so hyped about getting more into the series and learning more about the background of red Riot was cool and some of the scenes were great and all... until I turned the page to notice a page was damaged from what looks like water. Really hope others receive a better copy then me~(One pick is what it's suppose to be and the other is what i got)

I love this manga and I have every issue but this volume has a lot of printing issues. Every other page of the first chapter is just gone because it ran out of ink...

I told myself before I opened it up to take my time reading!! Guess what I didn't do? The whole thing was super thrilling! I can't wait for the next volume!The manga was shipped with care and arrived in perfect shape!Oh and just have to say that Season 4 of the anime is going to be SO GOOD!

I had already read this this one, but I bought it anyway because I knew it was that good. It gave a lot of backstory for several of the characters and kept me engaged throughout the whole thing.Although it could do with faster pacing, there is still a lot left in this arc. Overall, a good start to the raid. Looking forward to buying the next one.

About 6-7 pages towards the end of the book are faded to the point that there’s almost nothing to be seen. I’m super angry about this because it was supposed to be brand new and in good shape. I have every other volume before this one of this series and I’ve never seen this problem before.

I'm giving it a four because I really like Kirishima and Tamaki. I can relate to Tamaki introversion and Kirishima is such a loveable character. This volume is basically about these two. It's their character development volume. Both Kirishima and Tamaki both have to deal with their insecurities to become the great heros they want to be. The evolution with Kirishima is that he wants to more than just talk. Imagine what All Might's "I am here" phrase does for people in need of saving. It gives them a sense of peace and that everything is going to be alright. Well Kirishima is still struggling to give off that effect--making people feel at ease because they know he will save the day. For Tamaki, in the words of Fat Gum (who's a looker by the way) 'he just lacks spirit. Tamaki's quirk is amazing and he's trained it wonderfully but he lacks confidence and gives off a meek presence. This volume shows how these two are pushing through to overcome their mental blocks. This volume will read fast for the present time, which would make sense given what is going on---the raid. Don't expect much humor in this volume.Fights:Best fight is Suneater v Larceny, Crystalize, and Food. The visuals are beautiful. You get to understand why and how Tamaki is in the Big Three.Rappa vs Fat Gum and Red Riot. Rappa is insane. He's the Eight Precepts equivalent to Muscular from the training arc.Info on the New Characters:We get more details about members of Chisaki's gang and how they came to serve him. It's interesting that not everyone likes Chiasaki or approves of his methods. Thank you Nick Wilgus! Oh, man, this book is great. I love the main characters and the dystopian world the poor kids find themselves in. The battle they are fighting due to some unexpected visitors to the planet is scary as hell, and the creep factor on the aliens is off the charts. But what I love most about THIS IS HOW IT ENDS, (Deadworld Book One) is the excellent writing. The deft portrayal of the characters. The easy unfolding of the plot. And yes, even the book cover is perfect. I'll be sitting here waiting for Book 2, Nick, so I hope you've got it ready to go. I'm in no mood to wait. You can't just leave Rory and Billy hanging like this. Or me. There's a war to be waged. Let's get to it.

Yes the main character S are teens, yep they're gay !OK....so what !This is a story about people caught in unimaginable circumstances. In the beginning we have no idea what has happened, neither do the boys. As things are revealed, we think we understand, only to realize ..like the boys ...we have no idea.Emotions are raw and at times we are elated and excited, then scared, even horrified. Just when things seem tow be getting sorted out... new peril arises. Then....strength, determination and ...wait...it's the last page ? Nooooo ! I want more ! I want more, now !

I'm not a great fan of alien-zombie type fiction, and chose this only because the author is Nick Wilgus. Not disappointed.The two main characters, though teens, are engaged in very adult situations. The fact that several previous reviewers look anxiously to reading the follow up book of this story speaks volumes about the author's skill in developing interesting and realistic characters while presenting a fascinating "edge of your seat" plot. Superb writing.

Okay...wait. This definitely ends in a cliffhanger and there’s no sequel yet? This story was really good, but I’m going to be massively disappointed in this author if he doesn’t tie up loose ends and give us a conclusion. I’m waiting.....

This Is How It Ends is an adventurous read, I really enjoyed how the tale unfolded; the story would make and excellent graphic novella. Mr Wilgus creates excellent imagery, yet leaves enough that the reader can put themselves in the role of one of the characters. I am not sure how I would categorize this story, Sci-fi, romance, coming of age.... there is some light sexual content, put nothing graphic and some violence, but also nothing to intense.

What a great story, but I realize this was published a few years ago. When will the next book be out? I'd love to see what happens from here.

This is a great book, and I *need* book two now. I liked how "real" the characters were, and the sparks between Billy and Rory, and Rory's evolution over time vs. his upbringing. I also enjoyed the writing style, it seemed very conversational and was easy to read, but still kept me interested, even without constant bad things happening (though a lot of bad things did occur in the story).

It came in like a lion and went out like a lamb. In other words, it started off good but tricked out in the end. At least we know the author can write.
