This book has changed me more than anything else I've ever read. I have learned to accept my ordinariness as God's will and stop thinking something is wrong with me for not making some impact on the community. Fr. de Caussade helped me to understand that I actually don't know what I may be contributing, or even if God is asking me to contribute all of the time. I feel I can wait with inner peace for God's prompts when/if he wants me to do something and just to live ordinary life in love - treating everyone and every circumstance as the expression of God that it is.I read this with a dear friend. She has been changed in different ways; her issues were different from mine. But we both agree that we have moved deeply into the abandonment to the will of God that we have both wanted from reading this book.Don't be surprised if you intend to read a chapter at a sitting but have to stop for the day because what you've read needs time to sink in. What Fr. de Caussade wrote with catch your breath sometimes and the realization and understanding you move into are so astonishing, you just can't continue reading until later.

This book really pricks the ego...my prideful heart did not want to continue reading...however it is a wonderful display of God's will for my life...highly recommend reading this book but rest assured it hurts considerably

John Beevers uses the modern idiom to get across the ideas that Jean Pierre de Caussade offered to his friends for their comfort and holiness in finding God in all things. It takes a modern Jesuit to bring into the present moment the lessons of an 18th Century Jesuit who went beyond religion to help the Religious understand what their religion had taught them. While there are many presentations and formats of the "Classic" English language translation done and introduced by Dom Arnold, O.S.B. in 1921, all of these variations are dry, academic, and tedious compared to John Beevers' American rendition. N.B. at this time, there is NO E-Text or Kindle version of Beever's unique work. All of the public domain stuff is the awkward, 1921 translation with different covers and window dressing. Even the Amazon Kindle version linked to this Beevers BOOK is not the genuine Beevers text. So beware! You have to buy the physical IMAGE book to get the genuine article and Amazon sells it.Now then, you will not be disappointed by purchasing a paper book. Nor will you suffer technological inconvenience by having to actually hold a real book in your hands and use an old fashioned book mark to hold your place. Beevers is the real deal in both style and insight and he follows on from Anthony de Mello's WAY TO LOVE in being an easy read and a friendly guide. In fact, De Mello and all of the well written books on spirituality you have enjoyed up until now, have brought you to the present moment, WHERE YOU ARE NOW ABOUT TO ENCOUNTER THIS LITTLE GEM OF A BOOK!There is a caveat, however. This is not a book for exploration or casual inquiry. This is serious spirituality for the latter part of your life (no matter when it begins). If you have not yet "made" the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, it would be a good idea to do so. The "19th Annotation" for those of us who are busy, is a good introduction, and when you have finally arrived at the point where you are feeling overwhelmed at finding God in everything, this book, by John Beevers, S.J. is your next step. If you are at this stage, then no further explanation is either adequate or necessary.If you are here because of curiosity, you will probably be bitterly disappointed or even disillusioned. On the other hand, you might be caught up on the crest of Grace, whether or not you choose to admit it, and that being the case, you may proceed as far as you are carried. Do not however, make the mistake of reading a lesser (cheaper) version of the Abandonment to Divine Providence in order to get a "taste" of what the book offers. If you do and you become less than completely enthralled with the Sacrament of the Present Moment, the problem is most likely the translation. If you insist on continuing, scrape up the needed cash and buy the Image book. The author teaches in such a simple way the path to holiness. It is exciting to unburden oneself from the burdens of the world which so often bring despondency and despair as well anxiety anout the past and f ear of the future.The only thing we own is the present moment where we can make a choice to think or act, or not to. The past is gone and the future is speculation. Fear is speculation about the future about something that will cause pain. This book is amazing and I highly recommend it. As a pancreatic cancer patient, I can only begin to express what this work is doing for me. I only wish I knew about this in my 20s.

I love this book. I actually bought another copy after losing mine. It really makes you want to be closer to God. This book is great for contemplation. I read a section at a time and then pray. One warning is that this is not something you can read in a hurry.

David L. Pearson is a Research Professor in the Department of Biology at Arizona State University. His research is concentrated on ecological interactions among communities of species. He has studied habitats from desert grasslands and coral atolls to tropical rainforests and has written more than 75 scientific articles. ...but I just can't get excited about it. My grumps:1. This is a heavy, heavy guide. I've never seen a field guide so big and I'm not that excited about carrying it while hiking!2. I'd be more willing to carry a big, heavy guide if there were more pictures. As it is, I'd guess that 2/3 of the book is text. The text is intricate and well-written, but as a field guide I want PICTURES and little text blurbs. I don't need extensive climate descriptions or pages on mating habits. Totally overkill.3. It seems only the popular/common species are pictured. And it is an odd collection of pictures too... insects are photos (VERY overexposed), plants very light colored simple illustrations, and mammals are intricately painted. No continuity. And spiders? Totally absent. With the hundreds of species of arachnid in Peru, why aren't a few of them included? At least? I think flowers are pretty absent, too.I was verrrry close to returning this book but I wasn't able to find anything else that seemed comparable to bring along. So I have decided to keep it and give it a try for my 2-week trip in March. We'll see how that goes.

For anyone not willing to commit to hauling around the big standard bird guide for Peru, or in search of a book that covers animals as well, the Wildlife Guide is a must-have, right up there with a good pair of binoculars. Yes, there were birds I saw more than once that weren't in the guide, but that's to be expected, considering the ground the guide covers and the size (and excellence) of its illustrations. Not only is the book a field guide to identification, it's full of readable, informative essays on the country's ecosystems and the fauna to be found there. They ain't Sibley, but then, Sibley doesn't cover capybaras.I've used both the Ecuador and Peru editions of this book, and recommend them highly to anyone with even a passing interest in bird spotting and wildlife watching. My only slight gripe is that the heavyweight glossy stock is great for durability, but the weight of the thing, along with binocs, water, and incidentals, made for a semi-burdensome daypack while hiking in the thin mountain air. And oh, yeah, it really could use more on insects.As was the case with other reviewers, our guide in Tambopata - who hadn't seen the book before - immediately wanted to know where he could get a copy. (Speaking of which: be sure to buy this before you leave for Peru. I only spotted a single copy in one bookstore during the month I was there.)

This is a great guide to give an overview of Peru's wildlife. It is much better than similar guides that I've seen. Of course, it does not have every single species -- that would takes hundreds more pages -- but the selection is diverse and very useful.

Should have taken the advice of the other reviews - yes, it is a very nice book, but not great as a field guide and VERY heavy and wordy. Would like to see more pictures.

This book is an excellent intro primer for the ecotraveler. Its wildlife focus is mainly amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammalsts. Insects, fish, and plants get some mention. The book's country overview and its major habitat type descriptions, illustrations, and explanations are clear and useful as are the species photos and info. Thoughtful comments and info on conservation issues and ecotourism are included.

This wildlife guide provides photo identification, habitat description, and a good overall feeling for Peru's wildlife. My only "complaint" would be the weight of the volume for travelers. I ordered a used copy so that I could cut out the photo id's to lighten my load. : )

Half of the book is pictures and small descriptions of thebirds and other wildlife which is what I wanted (this is what the sample page showed). But the larger half of the book isn't very useful in the field, thus will make it too heavy to carry on our excursions.

We were going to the Amazon and Lima only, so much of this book was not pertinent to us on this trip. (We've been to the Andes/Cusco/Macchu Picchu before.) I was looking for a basic book on Amazon birds and animals, and found this to be the best compromise. I'd have preferred to buy the new Birds of Peru book instead, but the price was too high. The book is very heavy so be aware of that in your packing plans!

An argument based on the minimalistic jargon and discrete use of equations allows most anyone interested in starting from scratch or uncovering a previously unknown mistake in design to benefit from this book.

I bought this book as a replacement for the same book which I bought at a Radio Shack over 30 years ago. To this day, this book remains one of the best books on the subject since it presents all of the basic design principals in an easy to read fashion which is easily comprehended by the layman. No rocket science is required to understand this book, thanks to the author's very good writing skills! Even Gilligan of Gilligan's Island could build a decent sounding set of stereo speakers after reading this book.

Excellent book for beginners. Covers a wide range of concepts with sufficient detail. Of course you need to know some of the science involved otherwise it will sound like Greek and Latin. I use this book to understand the fundamental concepts. If I need more detail, I can always refer to a scientific paper on that specific topic. Author does an excellent job of not only introducing to the concepts, but also tells you what is good and what is bad. For example, in the section about Thiele parameters, he tells you what are acceptable values. I love this book. Worth every penny.

Maybe it's just my (Kindle) copy. It has blank/missing pages, tables... starting in Chapter 3 (at location 450). It's impossible to get a flowing narrative to know if this book is any good at all.What a BUST!

I'm a big Weems fan! I bought the 1st edition ~25 years ago. I used the first edition to build dozens of Hi-Fi, Pro-Audio and Car loudspeaker systems. With my first edition getting pretty worn with use, so I recently purchased the 4th edition, and I am very pleased. There are other books, but Weems book is stell the best speaker book for the money!The 4th edition has been edited to the fundamental information required to design loudspeakers. In addition, Mr. Weems added design information on 3rd and 4th order cross over networks and added the governing equations to determine fb, f3 and Vb for closed and vented boxes. The BASIC source code for programs to design speaker and cross overs is also provided. Yea, the BASIC code is a little dated since most operating systems don't have a BASIC interpreter these days. I would like to see the programs downloadable (preferably in VB), but I have used the source code and the equations to write make my own VB application.Weems provides both exact solutions (for math lovers), and the "minimal math" approach as well. Either way, you need to do "some" math to correctly design a loudspeaker enclosure. Most folks, who have mastered high school algebra and can solve simple equations, should be able to use the charts and graphs and design boxes and cross over networks.I recommend this book for everyone from pro's to beginners. For the Physicists and Engineers out there, you may be a little disappointed that the derivation of the solutions are not presented. For beginners, if the design task seems overwhelming, this book will provide a great foundation to buy a kit from one of the online retailers. Either way, if I had to choose one speaker building book, this would be the one.

The book provides fine general information about speaker design. It is not particularly useful for modern speaker design as it does not provide any advice on use of modern software to design speakers.

This is a great supplement to a proper study guide, but it should not be your only method of studying. There is one error I caught so far which is under the subtraction section, 3-8=-5 the study guide has the answer as 3. So this simple error should be fixed

Really nice easy read outline to help study for the TEAS exam. It was a big help with its direct to the point definitions and facts. I used it as a base study guide while using the Secrets of the TEAS V study guide for more in depth information and did really well on my exam. Good luck to everyone taking their exam!

This study guide appears to be great it's set up very nicely, but after I began reading the information alot of it is incorrect. The first two math problems are wrong. Example 1 has 1/9 + 5/9 + 6/9 reduced is 2/3 in order for this to be correct there should be an = before 6/9. Ex 2 has 8/12 + 9/12= 7/12 in mixed number form 1 5/12 ? When 9+8 =17 ...it's missing the 1 from 17. Not worth your money.

Its a handy tool to have when you need to look up something quick instead of going through pages just to find a formula or definition. It is broken down to reading, math, science, and English. What i also like about it is that it gives you examples and it shows you how to work the math! It comes in handy!

I enjoy this Guide because it is concise and extremely helpful. It covers the four main areas which are Reading, Math, Science and English Language. It helps me to study the most important concepts and ideas. It is a great tool to learn or remember what to study for this test. I recommend it!

This was a great reference while studying for the TEAS VI. It certainly doesn't have everything you need to know, but like I said, is great as a quick reference. I actually looked it over immediately before entering the room for my test and I scored 90% overall. Used this in conjunction with Mometrix.

Used this along with the secret to teas book!! Scored in the 97th percentile in the nation. This is a quick summary of what you need to study and is super helpful. My husband will be using it to study for his teas . Highly recommend

Thank You!!! It sums up the sections of the main subjects on the TEAS V exam. It does not cover all information that may be on the exam but it does highlight very important information. It is an add on to your TEAS V study guide or whatever studying material you plan on reviewing for the exam.
