If you want to learn HTML and CSS but you know next to nothing about coding, this is the book for you. And if you're worried about being able to comprehend and retain all there is to know about coding, this book is perfect. Ignoring the juvenile way the information is presented, this book is a literal goldmine of tips and information. You start out by doing simple coding that anyone could probably do, and you learn and retain a lot more than you would if you were trying to learn it alone. I bought it for less than $20 and it is worth every dollar.I can't learn giant chunks of information in one sitting like I could when I was in school because of migraines and an illness I got a few years ago. It's such a relief learning things without getting migraines again ;w; I can't recommend it highly enough.The creators of this book have my complete devotion and support and I know I'll buy more books from them in the future. Also if you're looking for a reference book, they have reference books by O'Reilly that you can buy. They're probably just as good as this one, to be honest. (I'm buying them after I finish this book lol)

It is as if a technical manual and Christopher Moore had a baby. It is fun to read and quick to learn. I was making rudimentary web pages in just a couple of days. I had absolutely no previous experience with HTML at all before picking this book up. My experience with webpages and blogging were limited to the free subscription to Wordpress. Now I am about 1/4 of the way into the book and already have a website that I built myself running through a hosting company and up on the web for the world to see. Each day, I learn a little something new and am able to apply it immediately. It is exciting and fun! Even though they say you can go through the entire book without getting a hosting company, I strongly suggest you make the effort necessary to get hooked up to the internet. The lessons come fast and are easy to comprehend and put to action BUT I find it vital to practice each lesson on my own to memorize them thoroughly. That is done by playing with my own website, building different parts of it according to what I am learning in the book. This is where most of my time is spent. Getting MY OWN work loaded up onto my own hosting server then being able to get online and see MY site, written completely from scratch by me is unbelievably satisfying. I am sure that I will be buying other books to get a deeper knowledge of HTML and CSS but this book has completely removed any doubts of my ability to do this. I CAN WRITE HTML and CSS! Very cool!

I feel kind of overwhelmed by all the other good reviews and rarely write one myself, but I wanted to just thank the authors for helping me pull together a LOT of bits and pieces I had learned about over a number of years. I'm not into professionally designing websites or programming these days (the last time I really wrote programming was for an Apple II+!), but I want to do some things for my own website I haven't been able to get others to understand. I don't know if I can't explain what I want well enough or if they don't get it, but I finally decided to dive into the HTML programming for myself.Several years ago I started the wrong way around by getting a book on CSS before I understood HTML and picked up some useful information and by asking questions and looking at HTML from actual websites I was able to teach myself some of the language and put it together, but I was never confident about it and I didn't know how to determine if I had the correct syntax or other parameters. I'm only about half way through the book, but already I've seen a lot of what I did know pulled together and explained in a way that I really remember and can go back and use without constantly referring to the book. In fact I've started reworking a website I tried to set up several years ago and I've made more progress in about a week than I made in 6 months before!The takeaway for me is that it REALLY is important to do the exercises and finish each of the puzzles whether they seem simple or not. I don't know why it works, but for me it has put all the pieces I already knew into a greater whole that I can remember and use.I don't know what I'll tackle next, but I'm pretty sure I'll start with a Head First book!

Despite some silly, irrelevant, and questionable advise on how to trick yourself into buying and studying this book if you have no need, the book has great content. It actually teaches you "why" and "how" you can start using HTML and CSS right away at the level a lot of "seasoned" professionals wish they could, staying accessible for beginners at the same time. Besides the silly/irrelevant "motivational" part, the rest of the book has only relevant material on each topic; they don't waste your time.

Book arrived on time, in pristine condition, & as specified. As far as science books goes it is extremely an unusually written book & at 1st glance more resembles "Cindi Lauper's take on HTML"!!!!! The book has many goofy pictures & odd seeming "writings (you have to see it to believe it!)", but I think it does work overall. It seems to give many clear, concise, & readable explanations on the items I have skimmed in the book. Take my review more with skepticism as it is not an in depth review as I never got a chance to read it through & am only writing this review as it is so long ago I ordered it that I thought I should write something to make review relevant. If you want an "alternative method of writing a scientific textbook" then this is definitely one you should consider as it is written about as "groovy" as the book cover images. Well, now I am going underground as my good review of this book is breaking the Bushido code of scientific writings which is make the darn thing (I.E. book) as difficult to follow as possible & thus am running for my life as I will be hunted down by nutty professors & other scientific nerds for giving it a good review (only kidding of course)!

Ooookkkk- enough fan girling, let's get onto Cage and Lake!Cage and Lake meet by chance in Dawn of Forever, “that one moment, that one kiss, that one unforgettable day.” They feel the mutual attraction. Cage wants to pursue it, but Lake knows that's not possible...too many dangerous circumstances keeping them apart. That doesn't stop Lake from Internet stalking this famous, sexy football player -- for three years, might I add.Lake was in a horrific car accident, she loses her leg below her knee and loses much more than that. She has to learn to live her life differently altogether. Life kinda stops for her for a while. She eventually puts it back together, with help from her amazing family. She doesn't let her disability define her, and becomes a covergirl for cutting-edge prosthetics. People respect her, look up to her. Her loyalty to those she loves is fierce. Not only is she intelligent, she's also caring and downright hilarious, as well as independent and confident. Took her a while to get there, but she got there and isn't going to allow herself to be brought down. She is a true a survivor.Cage….man, oh man that sexy private young beautiful athlete. He has never forgotten Lake and the impression she left on him. He's moved on with his life and is now a famous NFL quarterback. When he sees Lake for the first time in 3 years, he realizes beyond a shadow of a doubt he needs to know her. He's so intrigued with her that he breaks up with his sorta girlfriend and kinda jumps through hoops for Lake. He looks at her like the beautiful and intelligent woman that she is, not like an amputee. When that man loves, it's hard and all the way.“Do me a favor...anything...don't forget to love me.”Both Cage and Lake have been through their fair share of grief, and we see that throughout the book. In no way whatsoever did these two handle it like a bunch of angst-filled, twenty- somethings. No, they both recognize the s*** storm each of them have been through and deal with it the best way possible, Lake knowing she has to plow forward with what life has dealt her and Cage realizing he is a lot like his father but refusing to let that knowledge overcome him. There were times I could feel him struggling internally with his suppressed feelings. He's an old soul and a quiet observer, a man of few words. But when he speaks...especially to Lake, his heart is wide open.“...I kinda like you-a lot. I like our story. I like falling in love with you everyday. I like seeing all your emotions in your eyes.”Jewel has once again shown her readers how quick witted, smart, funny, sexy and unpredictable her writing can be. Such a complete joy to read her books.

Jewel E. Ann has outdone herself yet again. After reading the Jack & Jill series I didn't think it was possible but she succeeded. One was spectacular!! I'm on cloud nine now! I'm so in love with these characters, not just Lake and Cage but everyone from the Jack & Jill series.Before reading One I strongly suggest that you read the Jack & Jill series. It's a must! Because of the story and the fabulous characters. You will love One even more. I sure as hell did. I fell in love with the characters all over again. It also made me appreciate Ann's brilliant mind. Her writing and storytelling is in a league of her own. Even the simplest words evoked so many emotions within me. It's incredible! I kept highlighting page after page. Her words were that addictive and magical. I felt hypnotized cause I wouldn't or couldn't take my eyes off the pages, afraid I would miss a word or a sentence.Lake and Cage's love story was nothing more than a masterpiece! They were phenomenal. I loved how Cage SAW Lake for her beauty, for who she was and not her disability. The same can be said for Lake. Cage was her one chance for love again and in her eyes he wasn't the big hot shot NFL star. They were just Lake and Cage. Their love was inspiring and so god damn beautiful. Their relationship was intense, romantic and funny as hell. I easily felt their chemistry when they first met in Dawn Of Forever. It was even more apparent in One, which only made me giddy as hell. I loved that it was told in both Lake and Cage's POV. Their love was intoxicating and all consuming. Every moment in this story was important and earth shattering. I appreciated and loved the references to when they first met. It also played a huge part in there relationship. Just genius!I was happy that I got more of Luke and Jessica. More than I could even imagine. So damn satisfied. Also another reason to read the Jack & Jill series.Jewel E. Ann is a brilliant storyteller. I've read five books of hers and I'm just in awe of her talent. She's a genius with words, knows how to captivate me and tickle my taste buds just the right way. In my eyes One is a masterpiece! My masterpiece! I loved every thing about this story and its characters. It was beautifully written. I wanted to lick the words off the pages. One deserves more than five stars. It's just that good! My only regret is taking so long to start!Anyways, after reading the Jack & Jill trilogy, I couldn't wait to find out what happen with Lake and Cage. And I really liked their story.I love how this author writes angst. I love that this book is all about their relationship when they are actually together. So we get to see their relationship start, we see the trials they face with real life issues, and I find it refreshing. For a while now that romance books are all about the angst before the couple gets together. And then they're together and we don't see it. Cue 'they lived happily ever after'. Not this book.I loved Lake and Cage. She's funny, quirky and kind. Cage is a hot mess of emotions, but what I loved about him the most is how truly he loved Lake. There was no denying it.We get to have an update on Jessica and Luke and I was so happy :)I'm obsessed with this author. It's official ;)

Charles has become one of my favorite authors, and I’m pretty sure I started this book almost immediately after reading the first book in the series.The story picks up almost immediately after the events of The Magpie Lord. Having dealt with the threat on Crane’s life, Stephen and Crane return to London. But, as they say, there is no rest for the wicked. Stephen returns to work as a magical police officer, and Crane…. Crane drifts around a little aimlessly. He’s still not happy with the title he’s inherited, and he wants nothing more than to return to China. But now there’s Stephen to consider.There isn’t much time for consideration because someone is unleashing a plague of rats upon innocent people. Any city is full of rats, but it’s clear that these are no ordinary rats; they’re being controlled by someone seeking vengeance- but clues are scarce, and once again, Stephen and Crane find themselves facing an unknown threat.A Case of Possession takes the dynamic established in the first book and expands that knowledge. But what will the reluctant lord and magical officer do with their newfound relationship when taken out of their vacuum and placed in stiflingly proper London?I would recommend A Case of Possession. Readers need to start with The Magpie Lord so that they can fully appreciate the story arc. There’s a nice balance of sorting out the relationship and dealing with the rat mystery. Overall, the tone of the book is fairly light, and the banter is top-notch. Crane’s valet/henchman Merrick steals every scene he appears in, and I would absolutely read a spinoff featuring just Merrick.

I am officially addicted to this series in audiobook!!! Clever KJ Charles attaches a short story (narrated) at the end of each book. And after that whets our appetite with a mini adventure/mystery of the paranormal sort, she racks on the first two chapters of the next book. What else can you possibly do but go and buy the dang thing with the audiobook add-on?!So, this mystery brings us more of Crane and Stephen and their sexy relationship in and out of bed. The L word might be bandied about at some point, but both men are chafing under the restrictive English society and laws against sodomy. And Stephen finds himself watched by his own Society of practitioners. The reason? All that power he carries from all the good lovin’ he gets from Crane.The big evil this time comes in the form of big evil rats....ewwwww. Crane plays a major role in solving the mystery.I loved seeing the two grow closer and lower their guards, especially Stephen.Merrill still rocks it and only wish he were bi so he could get his own sexy book for me to read!!Needless to say, this book and series is audiobook is HIGHLY recommended!!Off to the next!!!

REVIEW WAS ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED AT DEAR AUTHOR WHERE I RECEIVED THE BOOK AS FREE REVIEWING COPYDear KJ Charles,I reviewed the first book in this series here. Now that some time has passed I can say that it was probably my favorite m/m book last year. I am usually wary of reading the sequel to a beloved book, because I worry whether the sequel will live up to the high bar that the first book raised. I am glad that for me this sequel definitely did. Now I can worry about the third book.This book should not be read as a stand – alone. If you do read this first, I do not think you will be terribly confused, because the adventure/mystery plot is a new one, but the book continues to build up the relationship between the main characters, Lucien Crane and Stephen Day, and most importantly it once again develops their characters in the midst of all that danger, magic and mayhem.One of the main reasons why I often scoff at the possibility of a sequel (or series developed) to a book I loved is because so many authors seem to be so very fond of creating artificial conflicts between the couple, just to break them up for the sake of another book and then putting them back together at the end. But there is absolutely nothing artificial in the tension between Stephen and Lucien in this book, because it arises out of who they are, and the unresolved issues in their relationship are believable because their relationship is only several months old. And of course there is a nice external danger to both of them, which made perfect sense in the context of the mystery/adventure plot.More importantly, the unresolved issues between the men do not make them act like idiots. For example, in the very beginning of the book somebody has decided to blackmail Lucien over his relationship with Stephen and made his demands known to Lucien. It is part of Lucien’s nature to try and protect Stephen (even though he is aware of Stephen’s abilities to protect himself). I was very pleased to see that it did not occur to Lucien to hide the blackmailer’s visit from Stephen, and he let his lover know as soon as possible about the blackmail attempt. I do not know why I was even worried for a second that this would be the source of a quarrel between the guys and a reason for manufactured conflict/breakup/angst (take your pick). I really must start trusting this writer not to lead me towards silly plot turns.I was also pleased to see both men becoming more and more aware of each other flaws, but still loving each other more, not less. It was refreshing to see Lucien realize (with a little push from Merrick) how much Stephen’s pride means to him and try to curb his own “wanting to rescue” tendencies. At the same time Stephen would at least attempt to ask for help, hopefully because he understood that asking for help sometimes did not make him weak. And their declaration of love was so appropriate and so suited to both of them. When we see Stephen’s desire to protect Lucien at all costs despite what it seemed to have cost him in terms of his cherished job, it made me wonder whether these men are really that different inside. I decided not.I must praise the adventure/mystery/magic storyline – I loved it just as much as I loved it in the first book. It made the characters shine, but more importantly it made me hold my breath wondering what would happen next and I read without hesitation the creepiness that I am usually more likely to pass in many other books. I did not want to miss a word; I had to know what was going on. I was also pleased to become more acquainted with Stephen’s partner Esther and other practitioners from his team. I am really hoping that I will see more of them in the next book of these series. I liked Esther a lot, but I think she could have used more fleshing out. Merrick, Crane’s manservant and friend was just as awesome in this book, and I while I was a bit scared to see the extent of his ruthlessness, I am glad the writer did not shy away from it. I liked that we learned more about what Merrick and Crane did in China as well.The writing was just as wonderful as in the first book. Here is an example to give you a taste, so that you can decide whether it works for you. Lucien was asked to do a little translating work for Stephen and his team ;).“Crane knew from Stephen that Mrs. Gold was the senior member of the team, and that she resented the common assumption that she was subordinate to the men. He addressed his next words to her. “Please don’t think this is a vulgar curiosity, but if you want me to translate when someone arrives, it would help to know what I need to discuss. What’s the problem?” The practitioners glanced at each other, quick fleeting looks. Esther Gold said, “Rats.” “Rats?” “Rats.” “We got a rat problem.” Saint wore a malicious grin. “I suppose you know you can hire a man and a dog in any pub in this city,” Crane offered blandly. “It wouldn’t help,” Stephen said. “Joss, show him.” Janossi put a toe under a fold of the sackcloth bundle and flipped it over. Crane walked over and looked at what lay within. It was undeniably a rat. It long yellow teeth were bared in death. Its eyes were blood-filled and bulging, which Crane attributed to Stephen, since he had seen a man dead that way at his hands. Its matted, dirty brown pelt was stiff with filth and dust, its claws were grey and scaly, its naked tail pinkish. It was a rat like any other, except in one respect. It was about four feet long, not counting the tail, and would have stood perhaps a foot high at the shoulder.”I cannot wait for the next installment in this series. Oh and what a refreshing idea it is, to choose not to end every book in the series with the cliffhanger.Recommended.Grade A-
