This is the definitive work for patent prosecution. I use it at least weekly. I recommend this book for anyone in the patent prosecution business. This book is geared towards professionals and would not be of much use to the novice pro se inventor.
This book (but older edition which I borrowed from Northeastern University Law Library) was very helpful for me to understand office actions and write responses. However, over 2000 (now over 3000) pages of the book may make anybody overwhelmed. This book details case laws that are only found in this book. Important chapters are anticipation rejection 102, obviousness rejection 103, and written disclosure 112 rejection; new matter rejection, restriction practices, reissues, and re-examinations are also explained in detail.One month study time is average for a book of this size. Some supervising attorneys, especially foreign-educated patent attorneys, may not like Iran H. Donner; just some differences in ideas. But this is a must-have book to keep at an agent's or attorney's desk for reference.
