The copy that I received was REALLY not a good quality. I wasn't expecting glossy photos because I bought a more affordable version, but I didn't think that the pictures would look streaked and washed out like the printer was running out of toner!

I bought this to replace my old copy I had misplaced over the years. This is a print on demand edition (something I was not aware of when I bought it). While print on demand is acceptable for text-works, for a book of photography the quality suffers profoundly.Highly noticeable moire, a lack of contrast, poor quality paper does not do justice to Weegee's work.

As others have mentioned, the photo quality in this book is awful. I wondered how bad it could really be when I saw the other Amazon reviews, and let's just say the reviewers were not exaggerating. I see that a hardcover is being reprinted in a few months--if you're dying to see some Weegee, it'd probably would be worth it check out his photos online until the hardback comes out, then cough up the extra dough.

My fault for not reading the reviews. The quality of this book is very poor. Not only are all the photos reproductions, so is the text and it looks as if somebody started with the real book and photocopied the whole thing. Very disappointed. Probably going to return this.I can't fault the content - text or photos - but it does not do justice to this great photographer.

O god do not touch this one with a ten-foot pole. A purported book of photographs with ABSOLUTELY NO CONSIDERATION given to the reproduction of said photos. They literally look like mimeograph. I'm sending mine back. I'm so disgusted.

I immediately realized that I could improve many of these photos by scanning them into iPhoto and tweaking a little. I just didn't think that should be up to me. Surely, Weegee's work was better than this.

OK, I've learned my lesson. With so many negative reviews, everyone can't be wrong. I have purchased literally hundreds of books from Amazon, and I like Amazon very much, but this was the worst piece of @#$%$#!! book I have ever purchased from them. How dare they charge $17.50 for this amateurish reprint! I knew it was a print on demand book (the date I ordered it is printed on the back page) but I didn't think it would look like it was printed on a Xerox machine from the '70's that was running out of toner!! The photos are washed out and undiscernable. I'm hoping I can find a beat up copy of the original somewhere. I really would love to have this book. Oh, and BTW, shame on Da Capo Press!!. I own many of their wonderful reprint books on music. My respect for them as a publisher has dropped 80 points!

I am a an R3 plastic surgery resident in an integrated program, and I bought this book because we have monthly oral boards reviews and I wanted something to help prepare me for those monthly experiences, and get myself ready for the oral boards exam at the end of residency. These cases represent the "bread and butter" of plastic surgery and give a framework for how to approach these topics when they come up in an oral boards case, but are not exceptionally detailed and probably would not be great for use as a study guide for the InService exam or any written test or for case preparation.The cases are presented in picture format with a few lines of text giving basic information about mechanism of injury or patient concern and basic demographics. The next 1-2 pages goes over a description of the problem, how to work-up the patient (history and physical exam pearls), the basic tenets of treatment, details about surgical techniques, classification schemes (if applicable), possible complications, and what are called "critical errors" or things an oral boards examiner would fail you for.I use this as a means to quiz myself (I go through the steps before turning to the answer page), and I use it in my study group to quiz my fellow residents. After reading this book I no longer feel like an idiot when I get up in front of my program for my monthly grilling, and I get much better reviews. I think this will help a lot with oral boards preparation.

After an unforgettable experience in India, we have looked for a quality coffee table book that would capture some of the amazing sites we had seen, as well as the people of India, the vivid colors that mark their festivals and a bit of ordinary life - a book that would stir memories and perhaps call us back to India in the future. Many of the more widely praised books on India capture only faces (or colors, or nobility or trucks or buildings) and we have found it very difficult to find all these in one beautiful book. From the description, we thought India Unveiled would be the perfect choice. The content is great, but the quality looks cheap. The paper is glossy and the photographs are without depth and richness - like vintage coffee table books of several decades ago. The cover is a tacky glossy finish as well, with a glossy book jacket. If you are looking for a reference book to put on your shelf, India Unveiled may be just what you're looking for but we would never display this. Had it been well done, India Unveiled would have been a keeper. As it is, we are returning it disappointed.

I needed a book about India that did not have photographs only, but had lots of information about the culture and diversity of the country's religions, customs, and people. After much research, I am so happy that I got this book. It has a good balance of images with interesting narrative that is easy to understand and makes it a very informative read. It is evident that the author is well-versed in India's history, art, and religions and has taken a keen interest in understanding the traditions and customs of the people during his travels through the country. The quality of the book is excellent.

I decided to write a review after reading the book,"India Unveiled: Spirit, Tradition, People." Each chapter delves into the details of each region of the country. All the diversity (and unity) is brought out and explained wonderfully with colorful bold photography. I especially appreciated the writers personal reflections and dialogue accompanying the photos side by side, an added bonus to such a beautifully printed book! It was easy to understand and guided by maps for each chapter. I recommend this book 100% if you are interested in learning about the ancient and beautiful land of India and its Spirit, Tradition, and People! Thank you Robert Arnett for unveiling not just imagery of this part of the world, but the historical and religious relevancy too!

I am a lover of India and Indian culture, and my husband is from India. We purchased this book and were very taken with how cohesive and easy to read it is. It makes a wonderful coffee table book and is chock full of pictures, information, and maps. India is a vast country, not only geologically but culturally, and there is no way you could ever learn everything about this magical country from a single book. However, this book is really the most comprehensive book on India, geography and culture, that I have seen. It is broken down, by geographical location, in chapters with maps and beautiful, full color, unique photographs. India can be very daunting to learn about, and this book really makes it easier to understand.It is written in a voice that ranges from cool and academic, to a charming and warm, first person anecdotal style, which makes it fun to read. There is a deep spiritual reverence, and also a love of India, that shines through the writing, which is really beautiful. It is filled with gorgeous photographs, many of them full page. The varied types of photographs, from artistic portraits to sweeping landscapes, to more gritty candid shots, really make you feel like you are there. Not so much an ‘art’ photography book, it is informative, and more academic, cultural and spiritual. The photographs are not only beautiful, but are appropriately suited for the specific medium of this book. The book itself is archival quality.My favorite thing about the book is that it focuses on the Spirituality of India. Spirituality is inextricable from Indian culture and is in many ways, you could say, the cornerstone of it. India’s spiritual heritage is completely epic, and, in my humble opinion, any book about India would be remiss in not emphasizing that. As yogis and meditators, my husband and I were thrilled. Some books like this do not emphasize the spirituality of Indian culture, or they come from a position of ignorance about it. It is apparent that the writer has experienced a lot of the culture firsthand. India has arguably the most prolific spiritual heritage in the world, and the saints, yogis, and spiritual masters make up a large part of it. To see some of that included really made the book shine for us.We must not be the only ones who value this book as apparently it is in thousands of libraries and schools all over the country. What a wonderful way to introduce young people to the wonders of India.I understand that books are a very personal thing, and everyone is entitled to their opinion...but personally, I agree with all of the positive reviews. If you really love India, this book is a must have in your library.

As someone who has been interested and involved in the Indian subcontinent for more than 30 years, I am always on the lookout for original insights about this complex part of the world. Somini Sengupta's book "The End of Karma" drew me in and never let go -- I finished it in three sittings, during a trip to India, in fact. Its insights drawn from a handful of case studies of young people shaking up India in ways large and small make for a great book. Anyone trying to understand the future of this country that is destined to shape the world over the next 100 years would benefit from reading this slim and highly satisfying volume. I found the first and the last case studies, and the opening chapter that sets the context, to be the best parts, but each chapter has its special gifts.

This was a well written enjoyable read that was informative without being boring. I sent a copy to my friend in Jodphur India to see what they thought of it and they said it was "Spot On." (I believe that means it is accurate.) Even if you do not have any reason to read up on India for work this is an entertaining read for anyone who wants to talk about more things that tv commercials and romance novels (although there are some nicely written ones out there). But this for your library and for your mind!

For anyone who has allowed India under their skin, this book weaves through the lives of several young people - the future of India - and, in doing so, helps us understand both India's past and present.

This excellent book provides a detailed picture of young people in India, their thinking, their mobility, their plans for their future. The future of our planet will be in the hands of young people from India, China, Brazil, Mexico, and many other rising countries.

I read this book in preparation for a study abroad program to India. Having visited the country many times, and having grown up around family that live and grew up in the country, I didn't realize just how much I still had to learn about how its current state of being came to be and why. Thank you to the author for providing me this introduction.

Sengupta makes very interesting observations of the change that is happening in India.

This book completely changes my impression about India.Its future is promising but it has so many problems to solve.
