I really love this book. It was awesome. It was a very interesting book and I learned a few things from it. I learned 2 new heart rhythms: Sinus arrhythmia and a rare rhythm called torsades de pointed: abnormal beat of the ventricles that produces a rhythm at first looks like ventricular tachycardia, but isn't. The treatment for it is magnesium and ventricular pacing. If you give the person lidocaine while they're in this rhythm, it will kill them. I also learned that there are 24 drugs that medics use to help bring patients back to life. I thought it was half that number. I'm familiar to most of them from my nursing math course I took. I really loved this book. I'll definitely recommend it all of my friends in the field.

Really interesting first hand account of people sent to save those in extreme distress, as well as serve the leeches in society who take advantage of social services. Canning is quite candid and honest about his insecurities, mistakes and shortcomings as a human being trained essentially to be a doctor, nurse and social worker.

This book inspired me to enroll into EMT school and it prepared for my clinicals (I knew that not every 911 call was going to be a true emergency). Many lay people see the ambulance rushing through traffic, and say to themselves, "Man, those guys must have nothing but action-packed days!). Not so! If you're an EMT student, EMS provider or someone with education in the EMS field, you'll pick up the terminology in the book and you'll have fun reading the book. General public will have a hard time understanding the vital signs/terminology, but still very interesting to read. This is an excellent book for those who are interested in getting into the field. Highly recommend this to EMT students, it will greatly inspire you and will make you a bit more street wise when your clinicals come up.

A good read for both EMT and Paramedics. Deals with the many physical and mental challenges of EMS. The book is broken down into small sections/chapters which I like as I cannot read for long periods of time. I look forward to reading some more of Peter Cannings books.

I got this book because I was (still am) interested in going into EMS. I wanted to see what it's like being a paramedic. This book talks about what he did on the job... The only thing that I don't like about this book is that he talks a lot about his previous job, which has a lot to do with politics.. and I don't like politics xDBut overall, this book is a good read. It goes into detail about being a paramedic, and about the different emotions he encounters treating his patients.

The book is fun to read and has given me insight into my brother's career as a paramedic. The author tries to give you an idea of what it's like to be a paramedic by relating his anecdotes, stories, and his thoughts over the span of his career. I definitely enjoyed reading this book and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning about what paramedics do. The only thing that irritated me about the book is that it jumps around a lot. There is no real story line and some of the anecdotes seem a little overly dramatic sometimes. Still, the good far outweighs the bad.

This book is amazing. Getting into te ems field I really wanted something to prepare me for what I might face just to get a good idea, this book helped. It gave some of the lingo emt personnel use with each other as well as the basics of what happened day to day.

I'm a U.S. Army Combat Medic so I have my EMT Basic certification and bought this book to help me decide if I want to further my EMS education when I get out of the military. I still haven't finished it but I wasn't even halfway through the book when I decided I need to do this for a living. It's the good, bad, and ugly of being a Paramedic. I would give it 5 stars but there's a noticeable amount of typos in the book. For example, twice on the same page the word "die" was replaced with "the". Not a big deal because the context of the sentence makes the word that's supposed to be there obvious but it's kinda annoying. Buy this book if you think you might want to pursue a career in emergency medicine because by the time you're done you'll have made your decision. That's all I got

Something is iffy about these 300+ amazing comments. I didn't think this book was so beneficial. I have read a lot of this content elsewhere. I also think that they plugged in their services too much for my taste.

This book just released yesterday and fortunately, the Kindle version was ingeniously made available for those like me who just couldn't wait for shipping.I say sample because as someone who has been fortunate enough to experience a good deal of Ray and Jessica Higdon's course and coaching material, this book is a cliff notes condensed version. If you have not ever had that experience this book stands on its own but it leaves a good taste of what to expect if you as Network Marketer (I will only assume that you are one if you're reading this book but you don't have to be one to get a benefit from this text.) decide to dig a little further and click on the added resource links located inside.I will admit, I have paid hundreds of dollars for social media courses (outside the Higdons) that weren't as effective and resourceful as this book. This book reads, as an excellent resource to those just getting started in social media marketing as well as those who have been doing it for a while and especially for those who have just been doing it wrong like I had for so so long before I had been exposed to the Higdons.In a world increasingly crowded by gurus and experts in the field, this book is a well thought out, easy read that lays out a practical way to understand the tool, social media. I love how it is not a technical physics manual on algorithms, gimmicks, and ways to outsmart, it's just a personal touch of just being human.I thoroughly enjoyed every page of this quick read and can't wait to start implementing the guide into my Network Marketing Business. I would most certainly recommend this book!! I wanted a book on Broncos as they're hard to find. Reviews were poor on this bool such as. "The only color photos are on the cover." I found this not to be so. It's mostly a collecton of period reviews from off road magazines of the time with other articles thrown in. It's a good collection of current (70's) thought on the little Bronco. If Ford brought this one back like they did the Mustang, retro but improved, they'ld sell all they made.

Good reference to flesh out a Bronco library. Would love to see one on the Full Size Broncos. Gave my copy away to a friend.

Tons of great information for the vintage Bronco enthusiast! This book contains articles from different magazines comparing Broncos to other like vehicles of their era. Very interesting and informative.

Miss Moonshine's Emporium of Happy Endings is a clever anthology of seven English authors involving the town of Haven Bridge and Miss Moonshine and her Emporium. I loved that the stories were written using a common location and character. Such an ingenious idea.Miss Moonshine’s Wonderful Emporium has something for everyone, and exactly what is needed. Each story is a breath of fresh air and one feels uplifted reading these. A wonderful collection, a wonderful gift.

What a different read! With a fascinating central character who mysteriously spans time from Victorian to modern times, these stories were wonderful! I was so fascinated that I even looked up English and UK maps to get a better feel for the location. I was so sorry to reach the end and loved the author bios! I hope to find more of their anthologies.

I'm not usually a big anthology fan, but this was a truly uplifting collection of stories that I thoroughly enjoyed. I hope this very talented group of authors comes together again with more "Miss Moonshine's Emporium of Happy Endings."

This was a delightful collection of stories, all bound together by a common theme - the village of Haven Bridge and Miss Moonshine and her Emporium.I enjoyed every single one of these stories, and I wished to carry on reading them all as well, I was almost disappointed when each story came to an end! It was a good introduction to the writing styles of authors whose books I may not have read before too, and all the stories seamlessly incorporated the quirky Miss Moonshine and her interesting shop.There were many life lessons to be learnt in this book, and each author did an outstanding job of keeping their story short but not TOO short, so that we got to know the characters quite well and could picture the scenes in our heads. It made me wish that there was a Miss Moonshine's Emporium near me, for when I need some answers to some of life's thorny questions!Well done everyone :)5 stars from me.Thank you to THE Book Club. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

When they leave they’ll find their true love, destiny, soul mate or a much needed second chance...Miss Moonshine's Emporium of Happy Endings is a wonderful book filled with nine amazing stories by different authors about Miss Moonshine and her incredible shop. I was mesmerized by each item in Miss Moonshine's emporium. The lady knows exactly what someone needs and she's fabulously wise. This is something that comes back in each story. I loved that the stories are linked, each author writes about the same Miss Moonshine, but builds a unique story around her. It works very well and one of the reasons for this is that the quality of all the stories is constant. They are true gems and I liked their originality, charm and little spark of magic.Each Miss Moonshine story is set in Haven Bridge. There's a large variety of wonderful fascinating characters from different times and places. Miss Moonshine brings people together, she unites in a beautiful way. Miss Moonshine's Emporium of Happy Endings is a celebration of life and love. There's so much goodness and sunshine in this book and that put a big smile on my face. I love it when I'm reading something that makes me happy and this book definitely fell into that category. The stories go well together, they are unique and the voice of each author can clearly be recognized, but they are also part of a whole. I was completely amazed by Miss Moonshine's Emporium of Happy Endings and highly recommend this fantastic book.

The first & last stories were the best written with good plots & characters. Miss Moonshine's character remained strong in each book.

Different authors yet so brilliantly cohesive. Each story is equally a great read! All the characters were well crafted and interesting. This book was a happy joyful escape for me. I wish there were more stories!!

I love this book. I'm not a security professional, just reading it for fun. It's great reading for fun.I especially like all the examples. If you already work in the space, you already know WHY any of this is important. If you don't, then leaving those stories out really makes the subject matter dry and irrelevant. Including it really hits home as to why security is so important to all of us, and it makes the solutions much more intriguing.The author explains things in layman's terms, so although this is a very broad and complex topic, it's very accessible through this book. I also love the author's approach of introducing you to *all* the relevant concerns of security, and then giving you references if you want to learn more (including problems that haven't been solved yet).One thing I found interesting was that having the advantage of living 10 years beyond the end of the book, it becomes clear that many of the current hot topics in security have been predicted by security experts for years. For example, Google just found the first SHA-1 collision, and in the book, Ross reported that an algorithm has been developed to find a collision in 2^69 steps, but it was predicted that it should be possible in 2^60 steps. 10 years later, as I'm reading the book, Google reports they did it with 2^63 computations.If you're a professional, you probably already know all the important stuff from this book. So depending on what you're looking for, it might not be the book for you. If security is this mysterious, complex thing that feels like it's beyond your reach, you'll love this book. It's not like "heads first" security where it just flies by. You may find yourself slogging through the thousand or so pages over a series of eye-straining months. Your husband might get used to seeing you making pained faces around the house while looking at the ceiling as you try to understand something. But it's still fun. Oh also sometimes the author is unexpectedly sarcastic, and that's really fun, too.

I’m currently endeavoring on a journey to attain the CISSP-ISSAP (architecture level) security certification.While studying for the CISSP exam I was forced to familiarize myself in many areas of security I had previously skirted – thus it was grueling work. Few of the CISSP level exam questions require in-depth knowledge; overall the CISSP requires an eye-in-the-sky view of the entire security field, and how different concepts fit together. At the level of the CISSP there are many good resources and it only took me two weeks of study to prep for a passing score.Studying for the CISSP-ISSAP has been more challenging. Not only is the training availability extremely limited, there are few good study resources for the exam. I understand the ISSAP concentration requires detailed knowledge of the inner workings of many technical systems (and not just those normally administered by security professionals). To pass this exam you not only need to retain that knowledge, but know how it all works in minute detail.A long foreword, but the point being stumbling across this book has been a lucky break. Ross dives into security engineering at the street level and comes up for air only to relate real world cases of security failure and how they can be avoided. Not only does he get down to the detail level required on much of the CISSP-ISSAP curriculum, his book is heavily weighted in the technical control fields that are core to the ISSAP exam.If you’re tasked with engineering security controls in any information system or joining me in studying for the ISSAP concentration I highly recommend this read.This book was published in 2010 making it currently 7 years old. This means there are some glaring exemptions from his review of historical security failures and a bit of weakness in mobile, social and cloud. It should be noted that. Despite being 10 years out of date many of his observations seem eerily prescient given what has occurred during the intervening interval and although lacking in examples pertaining to Social Mobile Analytics and Cloud – he accurately predicted the systemic issues encountered in these areas proving good fundamental coverage still useful in 2017.Trailing note. This is 1080 pages - if you're expecting a casual read look elsewhere, while Ross does an excellent job of keeping this digestible be prepared for some focused attention on every passage.Ross A++

About the Author

Kurt Newman, MD, is president and CEO of Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., widely recognized as one of the nation’s best pediatric hospitals. Dr. Newman has been a surgeon at Children’s National for over thirty years and is a professor of surgery and pediatrics at George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences. He helped create the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation, dedicated to making children’s surgery pain free and less invasive. A strong advocate for the expansion of mental health treatment access for kids, he is actively involved in improving pediatric health nationally through his work on the boards of the Children’s Hospital Association and Safe Kids Worldwide. He and his wife Alison are the parents of two college age sons and live in Bethesda, Maryland.

An absorbing child centric voice detailing the growth and development of Children's National Medical Center in recent years. Kurt is a Pediatric surgeon who appropriately frequently references one of his mentors, Judson Randolph, in the first third of the book. Dr. Randolph was one of the original pediatric surgeons in the United States who developed a strong sense of what it means to care for children in all of his trainees and staff. All of us who knew this fine southern gentleman have stories to tell. The earlier generation of physicians who brought CNMC into the world of modern medicine, Drs. Bob Parrott and Don Delaney who recruited Dr. Randolph, are not referenced but the CH part of the book begins after they built the program and the physical structure of what we called the "new" hospital which in 1978 relocated from a 100 plus year old facility on 13th Street in North West DC. That book has yet to be written. Newman's book is more of a message to parents than a biography. He speaks to the development and future of children's health care focusing on principles of what Dr. Delaney termed Child Life, Family Centered Care and case focused research which addresses the holistic CARE of children (Clinical Care, Advocacy, Research and Education). It brought back a flood of positive memories and hope for continuing ongoing efforts to achieve less pain and suffering for children as well as adults in the future. For a pediatrician this is much like following the ongoing positive development of a child. Given the pathetic uninformed messages related to health care coming out of our legislative bodies and administration in DC over the past few months it is a breath of fresh air. Excellent advice for parents of all children. Once again Pediatrics points the way for our adult medicine colleagues.

A wonderful book for both parents and medical professionals. You will laugh and cry at the stories of courageous, resilient kids told through the eyes of a caring pediatric surgeon. The book is an eye-opener for any parent or caregiver who might need to get their child emergency care. I also found it interesting to see what goes on behind the scenes in a pediatric hospital and what they are up against in trying to provide the best care.Definitely a 5 star book!

Healing Children is a beautiful mosaic of personal and patient stories blended with important lessons for care giving and leadership. His stories about the courage and resilience of children, and the inspiration that they can give to us adults, will touch your heart (if they don't, you should not consider a career in healthcare). I was particularly struck by Dr. Newman's insight that in treating the child of today you are potentially - and potentially in a profound way - affecting the adult that child will grow to become. There are obvious parallels for leadership, and for parenting. In every interaction don't just focus on immediate effects but think through the long-term impact. This is a book that anyone who works in the healing professions will enjoy, and that every parent will appreciate. If you are a parent and do read this book, I'm certain the first thing you will do is locate the nearest specialized children's hospital in case your kids are seriously ill or injured, because you will understand Dr. Newman's point that children are not mini-adults and have very different medical care needs.

Newman uses his personal development from a third-year medical school student to a national leader in the pediatric medicine field to show the tremendous progress that has been made in effectively treating and curing children with routine injuries or serious illnesses.Based on his forty years of experience, Dr. Newman provides parents with practical approaches for getting the best health care for children, including how to interview pediatricians and specialists, developing an emergency care plan in advance of an immediate need, becoming an active member of a child’s health care team and having expectant parents identifying newborn specialists and facilities in case serious neonatal care is needed.While as a lay reader I found Dr. Newman’s book highly readable and fascinating, his insights into the direction of pediatric health frontiers are important for both the medical community and the public. I ordered this after Bret Baier recommended it on TV. It is one of the most interesting books I have read in years. Dr. Newman writes about his training and growth in the field of pediatric surgery and later, hospital administration, so that the reader feels a part of the process. I had never considered pediatric medicine to be so different from adult medicine and now appreciate the importance of parents seeking out pediatric care and pediatric emergency care for their children. Excellent read, ending with excellent recommendations. The stories are both gut wrenching and heartwarming, but alwsys fascinating. It should encourage communities to cultivate these resources and recruit these terrific specialists for their children. And it encourages us that the future is bright for treatments and cures for pediatric diseases and trauma.
