This collection is great. As a head's up, it doesn't have any of the newer films (Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Aladdin, etc). It has several of the old cartoons, such as Sleeping Beauty and Jungle Book, as well as some of the live action like Mary Poppins. I am always very careful to purchase the regular versions of sheet music, so this review is of the regular P/V/G book and not the easy note. As an intermediate player, I find the songs are easy enough to play without excessive practice and they are a nice trip down memory lane to all the Disney films I watched growing up. There are few, like the Davy Crockett theme, that I never play, but overall the bulk of the book are songs I want to play and are songs that can be somewhat difficult to find in newer Disney collections.

This is a great collection, especially of the older Disney movies of the 50's and 60's. I bought it particularly to get a copy of "Baby Mine" from Dumbo, and because my young female students almost always want to sing Disney songs, but I'm enjoying the array of titles in it.

My husband and I were wanting a songbook appropriate for piano and voice to sing/play at a formal gathering. This fit the bill, as it contained "When You Wish Upon A Star" and "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes", the two songs we wanted. Easy scores, but also nicely written. GREAT for any Disney song enthusiast as it contains many popular numbers and some classics too!

Great book for my amazing children. Not an easy version; great for my advanced boys....., but has a great variety!

This music book contains 54 Disney songs arranged for piano, vocal, and guitar. The songs come from Disney movies, TV shows, and short cartoons from the beginning up to the present. Most of the favorites are here: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Lady and the Tramp, The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins and the 101 Dalmatians, among others. Davy Crockett fans will be particularly pleased that 20 verses of The "Ballad of Davy Crockett" are included.This collection is not exhaustive. The book is not particularly pretty--there are no pictures aside from the cover. The music itself is not too easy or too hard--if you're looking for a musical challenge, you won't find it here--but if you're looking for music that will provide a variety of pleasant playing and listening for Disney music fans, you've found it.

If you have a child who is into music and Disney, they will love this book.

I recognized most all of the songs and appreciated that most of the songs are classic. I do wish, however, that songs from Alice in Wonderland and Robin Hood were included in there. The songs are not super-easy, but definitely not-too-difficult for an intermediate-to-advanced pianist.

The characters have depth and are so relatable, you want to be their “true blue friend”! Perfect novel to help build healthy relationships and respect. And just enough whimsy and intrigue. Could not put it down!

This is the story of Anthoni and her mother who embark on a summer vacation. Anthoni's mother has just been awarded as highest earner in a Mary Kay-type business. To reward themselves, they go on a trip to the same vacation spot that Anthoni's mother enjoyed as a child. When they arrive, they find the resort dilapidated and disappointing. Anthoni soon learns that her mother was not the high earner at all, but that they put down a non-refundable deposit at the resort and that they don't have the money for rent back home anyway. Anthoni soon hears local lore of a mermaid at Thunder Lake and becomes fascinated by the idea. This summer she is on a quest for a True Blue Friend and feels confident that she can make it happen with Maddy, the daughter of her mother's old friend. She quickly befriends a few oddballs including the klutzy DJ and Charlotte Bulay, child of vaudeville performers. Anthoni learns a lot about what it means to be a friend and both she and her mother grow along the way.I liked this story very much, the tone and characters remind me of Joan Bauer. I would recommend this book for elementary school readers and fans of Joan Bauer. I would read more Josephine Cameron in the future.Special thanks to NetGalley for my complimentary copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

First of all, Charlotte Boulay is my favorite character in recent memory, middle grade or otherwise!! (I kept picturing Shirley MacLaine in the movie version.) But I loved this whole book, from the imaginative Beauty and the Bee sales to the wacky, dilapidated Showboat resort, to the straight-to-the-heart Epilogue. The mermaid mystery is clever and wonderfully paced. But the deeper story, of finding true friendship in unexpected places, will resonate with readers of all ages. This is my go-to summer MG gift--and not sure if the picture captures it, but I was surprised and delighted that the cover actually *sparkles*!

No maybes about it, MAYBE A MERMAID makes a big splash in this debut MG novel. A story about True Blue Friends, it will make you laugh, cry, and bubble w joy. I look forward to reading many more books by this author!

My grandson and I are enjoying reading books about Batman the Lego Movie. As he is 3.5 years old, this book is too advanced for him to “read” to himself. I read it to him before lunch and naptime when he comes to our house each week.There are two other books (by another publisher) that he enjoys as well but this one is a favorite. Not only does he get a fun story read to him, once a week he also gets to place a sticker (included) in the book. We are careful not to cover up the words so I can read the story to him over and over and over again. When we run out of included stickers, I will pick up some extras to keep the fun going.The book is told from the perspective of The Joker. It follows the story line of the movie quite well but the language is geared for a child. There is a bit of a surprise at the end that gets my little one giggling each and every time we read the book.The illustrations are photographs based on scenes from the movie. I don't know if these are the toys available as there are more expressions on Joker's face than I have seen on the new mini-figures.

My two year old loves these lego batman books and they are so inexpensive so i don't mind if he is rough with them.

This is not a small book nor a tediously long tome on composition and rhetoric as an instructional approach in improving the writing of Mexican American Chicanos and Chicanas. This is a book chock-full of pedagogical nuggets on how best to connect with Mexican American Chicanos/as in the English classroom. By extension these nuggets also shed light on how to connect with other ethnic minorities.As a critical history and pedagogy, professor Ruiz urges us to look seriously at what departments of English in American universities should be about, especially in Composition and Rhetoric classes. Surely at the beginning of the 21st century, Americans ought to have a clear sense of the purpose of Departments of English and their place in the university curriculum.The face of our nation is changing, and its public universities must change with it. Census projections predict that by the middle of the 21st century whites will comprise a numerical minority in the American population. At the moment it appears that the largest and most significant demographic growth will be with American Hispanics, the majority of them Mexican Americans. Per the last Census count Mexican Americans were 66% (2/3) of the American Hispanic population. This means that the mindset that English is white must change. Otherwise Freshman Composition and Rhetoric classes will be oriented toward objectives determined by the hegemonic elite. This is not a call to switch languages but to democratize use of the English languageAt the moment Composition and Rhetoric classes in American universities have a lock on Freshman students who are all required to enroll in Freshman English: Composition and Rhetoric. This is one of those “blind spots” Ruiz expostulates. Ruiz asks “What is the purpose of writing?” Literacy, for sure! According to Ruiz, the purpose of writing is to enable “students to critically analyze other written texts to help them understand their present so-cial position in current society” (65). This is critical thinking and reflection at the cutting edge of intellection that challenges “the continuing purpose” of Composition and Rhetoric “to create and maintain a hegemon middle class” (43).Citing Carter G.Woodson (1875-1950), author of The Miseducation of the Negro (1933), Ruiz highlights a pertinent commentary by Woodson:After Negro students have mastered the fundamentals of English, the principles of composition and the leading facts in the development of its literature, they should not spend all their time in advance work on Shakespeare, Chaucer and Anglo Saxon. They should direct their attention also to the folklore of the African, to the philoso-phy of his proverbs, to the development of the Negro in the use of modern language, and to the works of Negro writers 84).This is Ruiz’s message also. And my message as well in “Adios Chaucer, Adios Shakespeare: Americanizing the English Department and its Curriculum—a Latino Perspective” (Pluma Fronteriza, Part 1, April 20, 2011; Part 2, April 21, 2011).Ruiz goes on to look at HSIs—Hispanic Serving Institutions—colleges and universities whose student population is at least 25 percent Hispanic. Their congressional creation was meant to be an equivalent to HBCUs—Historically Black Colleges and Universities.Citing B.V Laden, Ruiz’s alarum is that:It’s not enough to let HSIs do the majority of educating this population; other higher education institutions must do their share and play significant roles, too, in this process or Hispanics will be stratified within higher education to only HSIs and the like (Laden, B. V., Hispanic Serving Institutions : What are They? Where are They?” Community Coll J Res Pract 195).The most intriguing—and the most illuminating—part of Ruiz’s book is Chapter 7 wherein she considers the role of multiculturalism in education and “masks of identity” in the inter-sectional space of liminal possibilities. The text here brought to mind Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World and his maxim that people are not always who they seem to be nor tell each other who they are.For Ruiz “recovering excluded histories is akin to recovering identities in that the histories not previously considered are a necessary part of what constitutes identity formation” (150).This is a treasure book by a gifted scholar whose insights like Machado’s create (el andar) the road we tread, step by step.

Skip this one! Too many tasks are off-level. Science aims high: "CH4 = 2O2 ___O2 + 2H2O" Math aims low: "Round $1.83 to nearest tenth". Most of the writing assignments were below level as well.

I have three homeschooling kids and we really love using the Brain Quest books. I was very excited to see the new Summer Quest series because while we do take the summer off, I don't want them to go brain-dead before the next year starts. I gave them their books, put the sticker maps on the wall above their desks, and told them they would each get $25 if they could fill in their maps before the summer was over. They were all excited and got to work! The worksheets are grade-level and challenging, but not overly so. It usually takes them 5-20 minutes to complete each activity and they love getting to put a sticker on the map when they're done. To complete the whole book, it averages about 2-4 worksheets per day (not including weekends) and so it is doable. I love that it keeps their brains working and gives them something to do besides get on each other's nerves or rot in front of electronics. We'll definitely be purchasing these again next summer!

I saw a comment on another summer bridge workbook saying they prefer the brain quest workbook better, when seeing that comment I remembered enjoying the brain quest questions in school and found the information more enjoyable and easier to remember.I purchased the work book and am very pleased with it. It is set up in the form of a quest with a large map that has quests need to be accomplished to complete the level. The work book does not only give sot down and answer questions, it also gives OUTDOOR quests as well. If gives flash cards, reading lists and many other things to keep your soon to be 6th grader busy enough to keep their brain sharp through out the summer.

Using this workbook has been a revelation for myself and my daughter. I am so glad I ordered it. She doesn't pay attention to the map at the back of the book. We've agreed to a set number of pages to be completed each day, and she randomly picks what she wants to work on. There seems to be a good mix of subjects, so she's practicing and reinforcing the concepts that she learned during the school year. I've also witnessed a few "aha" moments with her. I'm interested to see how this affects her return to school next month. Also, it gives us time to interact together - as we work on it each day after dinner. An easy, cheap way to keep the kids thinking over the summer. I'll continue to use these workbooks.

its very thin and only 126 pages of work. rest is the key. we have had these in different grades in the past and kids loved them but this one is just meh. I would have rather gotten the grade 5 or 6 book.

Love this entire series! I also love that it arrived on time with no damage to the book. The book it self is awesome because after every worksheet the child completes there is a sticker to put on their map. There is also a bonus questions that has solo stickers:) i was able to use the incentives to get more work done and she loved putting the stick on herself. The one downside is the book does not nessecary teach them so I still have to explain.

I purchased this to help with the "summer slide." My daughter who isn't really all that fond of school in general LOVED this workbook! She would sit down and do 5-6 pages at a time! I would say that is a great review in itself!

This resource is very fun for students to complete during the summer before their 6th grade year. I love that it covers a variety of content areas and topics.
